Over the past few years, I have admired photos of “dead umbrellas” that lyricist Stacey Luftig has posted on Instagram. One day I suggested that we write a song based on her photos. We had a fruitful collaboration, and came up with “UMBRELLA” for voice and piano. This past fall, we asked Kate Baldwin and Georgia Stitt to record it for us, and we are so grateful that they both said “yes!” So on the next rainy day, I hope you’ll keep your eyes out for the beauty that may appear out of nowhere.
